Founded by Emmett Agapay, Choreo Cookies started with just a handful of high school friends originating from the city of Oceanside in North County San Diego, and eventully grew to its current 30 members reaching all locations across San Diego County. Currently under the direction of Jeff Morales, Keone Madrid, and Kristen Aguinaldo this team carries forward a positive, enjoyable, and entertaining atmosphere to share and captivate their audiences." Krystle Cruz
Opening Ceremonies - National Anthem
Krystle Cruz was born and raised in San Diego, California. She began singing at the ripe age of 3 and started performing when she was 9. Such venues include Copley Symphony Hall, Belmont Park, and Sea World to name a few. Aside from singing, she also loves to dance. She started dancing at age 13 and became captian of the San Marcos High School dance team as a sophomore.
Krystle recently pursued a career as an artist abroad on an all-expense paid trip to Japan with Avex Entertainment, in which she had undergone intensive artist development, training in all areas such as vocals, hip hop, jazz, and gym which are all not unusual from her norm. Through this, she got discovered by a prominent producer of the company named John Seikoon Lee. Krystle seized every moment of this once in a lifetime opportunity and although things did not work out due to conflict of interest, she still continues to strive to become an artist of some sort and to always stay true to herself. Come what may, she will continue to work for what she wants until her dream is fulfilled. Thanks to past experiences, Krystle has the drive and strength to tackle and overcome anything that is thrown at her. Singing is her passion and her first love, beyond the glitz, glamour, and fame. It's LIFE... http://www.youtube.com/krystlecruz

Lindsey Yung
Lindsey Yung is in a class all her own. A truly remarkable singer/songwriter, she has a voice that will stop you in your tracks and lyrics that have a way of resonating with the very core of her listeners. Her latest album, “Opal Essence” showcases her uncanny ability to write songs that are infectious, moving and unique. She wrote all 10 songs on the album independently, plays both piano and ukulele, and has a voice that has been called “a beautifully refined and powerful instrument” (San Diego Troubadour).
Lindsey was born, raised and is currently residing in San Diego, CA, although you’ll often find her over in Maui where the source of inspiration for her latest album originated. She has been singing since she was a child, making her professional debut at age 5 in the musical “South Pacific.” Since then she has been performing nonstop and has shared the stage with/opened for arists like Jon Foreman, Erin McCarley, Tristan Prettyman, and Tyrone Wells.
Lindsey is currently working on multiple projects including a full-length Christmas album with multi-instrumentalist Blake Darling. She and Blake, otherwise known as "The Winters" have been working all year on what is sure to be a classic Christmas album set to be released November of 2010. Lindsey also just released an album with her side project/band "Lavella," which is available for free download under "music." She's also hard at work on an EP of songs she's written over the past 2 years. The EP is planned to be released late 2010/early 2011 and a music video will soon be released for her song "Hold."

Naruwan Taiko
In January 2008, with the support of the Taiwanese American Community Center, collegiate taiko alum Diana Wu organized an open workshop for the local San Diego community as a means to introduce and teach the basics of taiko, a form of Japanese drumming also growing in popularity in North America. Following soon after, committed and enthusiastic individuals came together to begin the first Taiwanese American sponsored taiko drumming group in Southern California, Naruwan Taiko.
The name of “Naruwan Taiko” stems from the same word “naruw’an” from the indigenous Taiwanese Ami language meaning “Welcome [for] we are all in the same family.” Similarly, to live up to its name, Naruwan Taiko’s mission as a performance group is to welcome people of all ages and all levels to join (not just limited to the Taiwanese or Japanese community) and to learn the style of Japanese drumming. As a group, Naruwan Taiko hopes to encourage teamwork, creativity, physical activity, and confidence in expression for each individual. As a branch of the Taiwanese American Community Center, Naruwan Taiko will also assist in broadening and strengthening the presence of the TACC in the community and to encourage increased youth awareness and participation in group activities. Lastly, the group hopes to provide performances for both the San Diego area and other cities as well.

Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble
Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble of the Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts and Education Center performs traditional gong music & dances from Mindanao Island, Philippines.
Pakaraguian is the Maguindanao term for a celebration of music & dance. Kulintang music is indigenous Mindanao music that is played among the Maranaos, Maguindanaos, and Tausug tribes.
This music is played at social gatherings, during weddings, festivals, healing rituals, to accompany dances, as a form of recreation, and sometimes to drive away evil spirits. Formed in Sept 2003 by UCLA graduates Bernard Ellorin, Mary Talusan, Eleanor Lipat, Peter Paul De Guzman and Nickki Martin, this group has been performing all over Southern California at different festivals, colleges, and events.

Nusantara
Rejang is a kind of dance from the island of Bali, Indonesia. The women or girls who dance it are said to be heavenly maidens who have come to earth. They face the shrines and dance towards them with simple movements and arms stretched to the side. This is considered a sacred dance and is primarily performed in temples.
Formed in 2010, Nusantara is a San Diego-based dance group whose mission is to explore dances from across the Indonesian archipelago. The word nusantara originates from old Javanese language and means “archipelago,” inferring the Indonesian archipelago, which is consisted of over 17,000 islands. Our Nusantara dance group focuses on all varieties of Indonesian dance and, although in its infancy, aims to ultimately study dances from all across the Indonesian archipelago.
We offer free dance instruction in a friendly, non-competitive environment in San Diego. For more information, please email: JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING . www.indonesianartscenter.org

San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater
San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater (SDAART), in residence at La Jolla Playhouse, presents Flower Drum Song: A Musical Revival in Concert (2010). Based on the legendary Broadway musical (1958), popular movie (1961), and modern revival (2002), Flower Drum Song follows Mei-Li, who flees Mao’s Communist China and immigrates to San Francisco in the 1950s. She struggles to balance tradition and assimilation while looking for love. It also explores intergenerational conflict as Wang, the owner of an old-fashioned opera house, resists his son who wants to turn it into a nightclub in pursuit of the American dream. Ross Shimabuku
Ross Shimabuku joined Fox 5 San Diego in May 2009. Despite being born and raised in Hawaii, Shimabuku is not Hawaiian -- he doesn't even surf! Prior to working at Fox 5 San Diego, Shimabuku was the weeknight sports anchor at KTVK in Phoenix. He spent 8 years in the Valley of the Sun and was fortunate to cover the Arizona Diamondbacks Wolrd Series Championship and two Super Bowls.
Shimabuku got his start in TV in Hawaii.
Prior to that, he had the pleasure of driving himself crazy being an accountant. He analyzed worksheets and punched his 10-key day after day until he finally became a CPA. That made his parents proud but his life was still unfulfilled, so he followed his heart into sports. He vows never to do accounting again, so don't bother asking him during tax time.
Shimabuku is the youngest of five children and despite what his siblings say, he is not adopted. In his spare time, Shimabuku loves to eat chocolate, work out and sleep. He is a 1993 graduate of Arizona State University with an accounting degree, which is currently gathering dust back in the Islands.
